yes chicken, but ART at Nando's!!

Just get me a quarter chicken leg and thigh with chips, macho peas and a pitcher of sangria and I promise you I will be good. I will be even better because I'll be staring at beautiful art on the walls and a Congolese, Zimbabwean or South African jam I grew up to is highly likely to be playing in the background. I'll have more fun than an adult probably should with the slicing touchless hand dryer thing in the bathroom and tell myself i'll have that concrete slab slanted sink with the exposed raw iron faucet in my future house one day. Those are most of the reasons why I love this place along with the nostalgia it brings of living in Zimbabwe, Kenya and Core d'Ivoire where Nando's seemed to be following me. Your reasons may be different, but when it comes down to it - EVERYBODY LOVES this place and if they don't it's probably because they don't know it or they think they are too good for it...

Why I'm here right now is because I love to see companies that do good not only by the good service they provide to the consumer, but through philanthrocapitalism! Nandos is a company that promotes local artists and their work through competitions to be featured on the menu. You will never go into a different branch and see the same cookie cutter copied art there. Only originals and they mostly all have the artist's signature on them. In the DMV alone I have been to 4 of them and there is no repetition. The art generally has the same feel - bright and cheerful, but never the same thing.

I went to the Silver Spring one with friends a couple of weeks back for FestAfrica and while we were waiting I was focusing on the menu and was quite touched at what I noticed beyond the menu options.
