I've been thinking about having a plant or trying to grow one and see if it would survive. After all and apparently as we grow older we should test our abilities to love and care for someone by taking on a plant or an animal. Although I've had about 2 lifetimes worth of intense caring for someone[s], I thought maybe I could take my mind off things by caring for something significantly less maintenance. I also can eat this thing so 2 birds with one stone.
Now I love basil and only when it's fresh. I can actually just chew on the leaves raw because the flavor is sooo intense and clean and fresh. Between it and mint (my next plant), it's a really close call. Anywhooo I went to whole foods and got a fresh basil plant ready to be potted.

The plant as it is from the store
potting soil courtesy of the roomie - don't know what i was thinking without it
in the absence of a "pot" a glass will do
add the potting soil into and around the plant in glass
et voila!
I cannot wait to transfer this plant as it clearly is already overflowing from that glass and into a small pot. After that, once it starts really growing I can't wait to toss some leaves into my salads, pastas, bread, drinks etc etc et-FREAKING-cetera \0/
Might do an update of growth and the transplant :)
