Welp, Bulawayo's Mojitos >>> Boston's!

I have a love only relationship with mojitos and between real life and this previous post any time spent around me where chilling and adult beverages are involved, if it's not a glass of wine it's most likely a mojito. In this here 2013, the best one I've had was in Bulawayo at Africana Lodge on Park Road across from the museum. The restaurant is a colonial style bungalow with sprawling gardens, high ceilings, heavy wooden doors, real iron fixtures and huge breezy windows - the kind of place I absolutely love! On the day I went there I started my day with coffee at Noma's grand opening  and did a whole lot in different parts of the city before ending up there. I'd long (a month and some change) been lamenting how much I missed my favorite drinks and it seemed bartenders in different establishments weren't quite getting cocktails right. I'd given up and settled on [what I considered] the safe choice - Savannah Dry [this was after a bartender put ice in my white wine because I had asked if it was chilled].

Cut a long story short, one of my girl's had long been telling me about the happy hour on Wednesday's at 26 on Park (#26 on Park Road in Suburbs) so on this day I thought to just go try it. BOY!...MAN!!! The picture below is indication enough:

THE best mojito I've actually ever had! Funny because the bartender actually doesn't drink, but has somehow managed to get all kinds of cocktails to near perfection! If you're ever in Bulawayo and need a good drink head over to 26 on Park because between the food and the drinks and the overall ambiance you will love it!

Today, I'm in Boston for work and went out for a drink & food upon arrival with some friends and true to nature sitting on the open rooftop overlooking the harbor on a warm summer evening the only thing I wanted was my drink Mo'. So I ordered it and was not impressed at all. The mint leaves were not muddled, not enough club soda and an unawesome rum was used.

Underwhelming indeed and I remember giggling to myself as I thought to myself how much I could use that mojito I had in Bulawayo. The dilemma of an afropolitan...the struggles of a third culture kid...always continue.
