@noma_nomzz, @GilmoreTee & @afropolitaine
With this marathon blogging I was supposed to follow my script of 1. blogging daily and 2. letting you guys know about my time in Zimbabwe as a way to mark and begin the second half of twenty thirteen. My progress so far? Weellll not abysmal, but I'm sure I've left a little to be desired since I haven't been doing it on the daily. LIFE has been real and pretty much gotten in the way or sometimes time has just alternatively been better spent off the interwebs. I am here now though :)
One of the events I attended in Bulawayo was the opening of a cafe by Noma (@noma_nomzz) at the Bulawayo theater. She is also a Diaspora returnee from London who I met for the first time in Zimbabwe last year August at the Zahara concert and then again this time around. I was invited to her event by socialite extraordinaire @GilmoreTee and went with a childhood friend. He got a chocolate sumn sumn cupcake and I got a red velvet!
Left to right: @mgcininyoni (renowned playwright & theater director), @njabulomoyo (an amazing poet), @afropolitaine & my childhood friend Philani
A big shoutout to locally based creative minds and innovators like Mgcini, Njabulo, Gilmore and Philani as well as the diaspora returnees who have quietly gone back to Zimbabwe and are making the things they want to happen happen :)
