amaGUAVA!!!!

Since I have been back I have  indulged in a good amount of nostalgic therapy (eating and doing things that I have expressly missed eating, seeing and doing in the time I did not live here). Sometimes the moments hit when I'm not expecting it and it's almost embarrassing when I exclaim all loud and dramatically at the sight of something probably mundane to people who've been here all along. These things happen right?!

The other day, once I was done with work, a friend of mine came to pick me up from my "office" (more on that in a separate post) and before taking me home he asked if it was fine if he ran a couple of errands in town and emalokitshini (high density suburbs). I pretty much hop on an opportunity to revisit different and new parts of the city so I eagerly obliged. It was a fun ride around seeing how so many things have changed, for better and worse, along with so much that has remained exactly the same.

Anyway, one of the errands was for him to pass by an aunt's house in Magwegwe to drop off a package from his parents. I wanted to stay in the car, but he said I should come in in case he's a while and it might not be too safe in the car. I went in and would you believe what greeted me upon entry?!?! A towering guava tree HEAVY with ripe yellow guavas!! I think I actually screamed "amaGUAVA!!". So many of them had fallen onto the ground and were smushed seeds and all. Only self respect and not knowing the owners and wearing a shortish skirts stopped me from climbing or shaking that tree with all my might.

So we went in chatted a bit and a Gogo came out to join us in the living room. My friend teasingly mentioned my fascination with the guava tree outside and his aunt said "oh singakufakela vele sesidinwe ngawo (oh we can pack some for you we're tired of them)". You guys I was doing cartwheels inside, but I graciously and shyly thanked her. She got her teenage son to climb up on the bench and into the tree as we pointed out which ones he should grab. I went home with a bag full of guavas that day :D

I didn't even know the lady, but she was so generous and I was everly thankful. I tried not to eat all of them because we all know what happens when you eat too many <_ .="" p="">
