One summery afternoon my roommate and I went out to Adam's Morgan for the annual summer street festival. Both of us had never been and we knew that we were running out of days to wear our maxi dresses. And so we went to this festival. It was an extremely sunny day and even though parking took entrely too long and we had to park so far away it turned out to be a great day.
Adam's Morgan is one of those neighborhoods/areas you have to go to if you live or visit DC simply because it's there. It's not insanely exciting place, neither is it boring. It is, however, always a good time! I've decided that anyone who doesn't like or enjoy their time, whether looking to have a blast or just to chill, in Adam's Morgan just has a personality deficiency. It's the kind of place you can go to alone or on a date or in a group.
I looked up a little history of the neighborhood in preparing this post and found out some pretty interesting things for us closeted anthropologists and history buffs. So apparement, when DC was still a heavily segregated city there was an all black school called Thomas P. Morgan Elementary School and an all white one called John Quincy Adams Elementary School. Desegregation led to preexisting boundaries of surrounding neighborhoods to be redrawn and the resulting area named after the 2 schools - Adams + Morgan. Today, the Adams school still stands, but the Morgan school no longer exists :/ (pre-gentrification gentrification ? - another post you/i say)
Anywhoo pictures from the day out with roomie and a [ ding ding ding *BONUS*] video at the bottom :)
